Our Testimonials

History of the Players

The first play that was performed was “Thark”, a farce by Ben Travers in December 1952. Tickets were the princely sum of 1/6d each (8p)! They went on to do another Ben Travers’ – “Rookery Nook” in April 1953. Unfortunately after this many members were losing interest and only left the stalwarts numbering 7! However, determined to carry on with their six women and one man, they succeeded in producing “Ladies in Retirement” in February 1954.

From here the club prospered achieving three plays a year and the title “Tithe Farm Players” was adopted.

They joined the Ruislip Theatre Guild, an association of some 20 local drama and film groups, and every year presented a play in the British Drama League’s One Act Play Festival.  They won many awards including the prestigious Ruislip Theatre Guild Cup for the best performance in 1958.  For some years, our president, Nick Tidmarsh, was also Chairman of the Guild.

By 1968 the season’s programme had grown to 3 plays, a summer show and a pantomime. In 1973 the present club building was opened and the old club demolished along with much stage equipment. However, the new facilities were a great improvement on the old. Eventually the summer show was dropped due to the work load mainly for the set builders, and then the pantomime. However, to provide variety, pantomime is still performed occasionally along with other musical shows.

ON STAGE

Rehearsals & Performing

The group is very fortunate with the facilities at Tithe Farm, with the stage and stores for scenery, props and furniture. Because of these facilities, the group is able to keep ticket prices down, they fall much lower than most other local drama societies are forced to charge.
